Who She Is

Oxum (Ọ̀ṣun) is the orisha of the fresh waters — of rivers, springs, and waterfalls — and, with them, of love, fertility, beauty, and gold. She is the mother who protects pregnancy and small children, the lady of the womb and of sweetness, but also a powerful diplomat, able to resolve through gentleness what force cannot.

Her water is the one that quenches thirst and makes life sprout; her metal is gold; her flavor is honey. She is vain, generous, and firm: Oxum’s mildness is not weakness, and her wrath, when it comes, is as deep as her waters.

Domains

  • Fresh waters — rivers, springs, waterfalls; the water that sustains life.
  • Love and fertility — affection, gestation, the continuation of life.
  • Wealth and beauty — gold, abundance, charm, diplomacy.

In-Game Perspective

Oxum is the principle of the waters that generate and embrace — a vital counterpoint to the still waters of Nanã and the sea of Iemanjá. In the Wiki’s line of syncretism, she echoes the great goddesses of love and fertility — Inanna, Ishtar, Aphrodite —, all faces of a single principle under the Theosophical reading.
