Oxumarê

Orisha of the rainbow and the serpent, lord of cycles, movement, and renewal. He links sky to earth; he is male and female according to the season. Greeting: "Arroboboi!".

Who He Is

Oxumarê (Òṣùmàrè) is the orisha of the rainbow and the serpent — the lord of cycles and of continuous movement. He is the one who links the sky to the earth, carrying water upward and downward, closing the circuit of the rain. His most famous image is that of the serpent that bites its own tail: time renewing itself without end.

It is said that Oxumarê alternates between male and female according to the season — six months of each —, which makes him the orisha of transformation, of the duality that does not fix itself. He is linked to wealth and to the fortune that circulates, never to the kind that stagnates.

Domains

  • Cycles and renewal — the seasons, the returns, the wheel of time.
  • Movement — the fortune that circulates, the change that never ceases.
  • Duality — the alternation between opposites, without clinging to either.

In-Game Perspective

Oxumarê is the principle of eternal return — the ouroboros serpent that also appears on the seal of Theosophy and in the cyclical cosmologies of other traditions across the Wiki. He is the orisha of turning time, a theme dear to the game’s mythic structure.
