Obá

Warrior orisha of the river Obá, lady of strength and loyalty. Wife of Xangô, wounded by a cruel deception. Patron of warrior women. Greeting: "Obá Xirê!".

Who She Is

Obá (Ọbà) is the warrior orisha, lady of the river that bears her name (in Nigeria) and symbol of female strength and loyalty. She was the first wife of Xangô and is, among the orishas, one of the bravest in combat — feared even by male warriors.

One of the best-known myths tells how Oxum, out of jealousy, deceived her: she made her believe that cutting off her own ear and offering it in a stew would secure Xangô’s love. Obá, loyal and in love, obeyed — and was humiliated. From this episode comes her mark as an orisha wounded by betrayal, but who turns pain into strength. She tends to hide her mutilated ear behind her shield or hand.

Domains

  • War and strength — combat, bravery, defense.
  • Loyalty — fidelity taken to the extreme, with all its grandeur and its risk.
  • The waters of the river Obá — the strong current, turbulent where it meets the river Oxum.

In-Game Perspective

Obá is the archetype of the betrayed warrior who does not break — a theme that speaks to the tragic figures of the Wiki, like Inanna herself, moved by love and wounded by a lie. Pain turned into power is a recurring narrative engine in the game.
