Who He Is

Oxóssi (Ọ̀ṣọ́ọ̀sì) is the orisha of the hunt and the forests, lord of the woods and of all that lives in them. He is the hunter of a single arrow (Odé) — the one whose unerring aim secures food without waste. Where Ogum opens the path through the forest, Oxóssi knows it, dwells in it, and from it gathers his sustenance.

He is therefore the orisha of abundance and provision: he brings the game, the food, the prosperity that comes from balance with nature. He is also linked to knowledge — to hunt, one must observe, track, and learn the signs of the world.

Domains

  • Hunt and forest — the domain of the woods and their animals.
  • Abundance — food, plenty, the sustenance of the community.
  • Observation and knowing — practical knowledge drawn from nature.

In-Game Perspective

Oxóssi embodies the relationship of respect for and reading of nature — to hunt is to know. For an RPG of exploration and survival, he is the orisha of the living biome: the forest that feeds those who understand it and punishes those who waste it.
